A small library of donated books has been started for the older school children of the villages around, who come to Kalyan Sangha regularly to read the books. One of our friends, who is trained and experienced in library development, has helped to initiate the process (in February 2016). Currently, it provides reading as well as lending facility.
The Shiksha Samsad (Education Committee) of Kalyan Sangha aims at the overall development of the children of the surrounding villages through numerous educational activities and trainings. For this purpose, the Shiksha Samsad tries to expose the children to various knowledge and information sources, workshops, educational instruments etc. The Shiksha Samsad has received a globe, a microscope, a CD player and a microphone-amplifier system from our friends and well-wishers.
Friends of Kalyan Sangha from Bankura Theater Academy organized a three-day residential theater workshop on January 23rd, 24thand 25thof 2016 for the older children (of class VI to IX)from the local villages. It culminated in a cultural program on January 25th, 2016 showcasing the theatrical talent of the children. The enthusiasm expressed by the children and the appreciation they received made the Bankura Theater Academy commit to a regular monthly theater class at Kalyan Sangha. Since then, the children attend theater classes once every months.
The children of Shiksha Samsad are full of creative talent, and Kalyan Sangha wanted to make a platform showcasing their talent to encourage them. Palash Baha (Palash flower) is now the magazine that has started its journey since April 2016. All the creative contributions, including the name of the magazine came from the children. They took active part in the circulation of the magazine in their own village. The magazine is published every three months.
