The working mothers are usually compelled to bring their children to the workplace. It is hard for the mothers to take care of them at the workplace, under the sun and the children suffer. Shishu Lalonee was born out of anurgeto provide care for such children. Shishu Lalonee uses 3-4 rooms of Kalyan Sangha to care for the children of the working mothers. Almost all the familymembersofsuchchildrenareworkers.Evenifthesmallchildrenareleftathometothe older kids, the older ones cannot attend school. Neither can they take care of the small ones properly. At the ShishuLalonee, there are two teachers who oversee the children. The Social Welfare department pays for the Shishu Lalonee project. Most of the children of Lalonee are from tribal families. The children stay at Lalonee from 8am in the morning to 4pm in the afternoon. Lalonee tries to instil good hygienic practices among the children, provides various educational activities, takes care of their washing and feeding needs and provides medical treatment as needed. The parents pay a token amount of money, only to remind them that raising a child is an economic responsibility of the parents as well. It is seen that such good rearing of the children results in better physical and mentalgrowth.
Kalyan Sangha started this school solely by its own organizational capacity. The school runs from 10 am in the morning to 3pm in the afternoon. 50 children can study at this school. Most of the children come from the working families as well as the families where no one has ever attended school. Some children from the ShishuLalonee crèche too attend this school. Bhagawati Charitable Trust provides economic help to run this school, primarily for the daily lunch provided and the necessary medical treatments. This school does not restrict education to the conventional books-oriented system, rather it strives to provide an overall learning Atmosphere through music, poems, drawing, educational play activities etc. Making every child self-dependent through acquiring good habits is a goal of this school. Special care is taken to help comprehensive development of the children’s physical and mental faculties. A target of this school is to stop the tendency of dropping out after the ShishuLalonee crèche. Sri Bipul Chakraborty and Smt. Anushree Chakraborty encouraged Kalyan Sangha to establish this school.
