Kalyan Sangha emerged as an Ashram on the lap of the beautiful Susunia Hill in Bankura, under the guidance of Sri Bijoy Kumar Bhattacharya and Sri Prafulla Chandra Sen. The local zamindar gave away six bighas of land for the establishment of the Ashram. This place became a branch of the Kalyan Sangha of Hooghly. Freedom fighter Sri Sanat Kumar Bhattacharya and his co-worker Kalidas Banerjee took charge of this branch. Chandra was a T Naad (arid) region devoid of any school, doctor or shops. The area was gradually transformed into fertile cultivable land; a small school was started; the local village people started to take interest in the project.
